CATL and Hyperstrong Sign 60GWh Sodium-Ion Battery Supply Deal

May 6, 2026

CATL to Supply 60GWh Sodium-Ion Batteries to Hyperstrong in Landmark Agreement

On April 27, 2026, CATL and Hyperstrong announced a strategic cooperation agreement under which CATL will supply a total of 60GWh of sodium-ion batteries over three years. This represents one of the largest supply deals in the sodium-ion battery sector to date.

For B2B buyers, particularly industrial energy storage integrators, this development signals a rapidly maturing supply chain for sodium battery technology. Large-scale deployment will soon validate the potential cost and performance advantages of sodium-ion batteries, which could offer a more economical alternative to lithium-ion systems for stationary energy storage applications.

Implications for Energy Storage Markets

This agreement indicates a major step toward mass-market adoption of sodium-ion batteries in energy storage. As production scales up, industrial buyers may benefit from reduced material costs and diversified supply chains, reducing reliance on lithium.

  • 60GWh total supply over three years ensures long-term pricing stability for integrators
  • Real-world project data from this deal will demonstrate sodium-ion performance metrics
  • Potential for lower total cost of ownership compared to lithium-ion in stationary storage
